The Story behind the Shapes Video Series
As I was recovering from an operation in a hospital, the patient next to me had visitors. His sister with her daughter. After a while I noticed that the seven year old girl got bored listening to the grown up talk.
“I’ll show you something that you have never seen before.” I said. “Do you see the heart on the windowsill made out of little cubes? My daughter who is about your age made this for me before getting into the hospital. Do you think you can take a good look at it, take it apart, and then rebuild it?”
Ambitiously she started rebuilding the heart. It looked easier than it was. She then came up with a different heart shape, which was just as great.
“Despite them being cubes, you can make round shapes." I explained. "Try to build a circle!”
After a while, I went for a walk and left her alone with the cubes. As I came back, they were about to leave. She told me that she didn’t have the time to finish the triangle, but has a good idea how to do it.
Those 10 Lini cubes kept her busy for as long as she stayed, which was one and a half hours.
As I finished the triangle for her, it inspired me to make short videos on shapes. Not only should they giving kids a hint on how to build them, but also teach the spelling and pronunciation.
